What curriculum do you offer at Suzhou High School - International Division?
The three-year internationalized high school curriculum we offer is the outcome of our strenuous effort to bring together the IB Diploma Programme, the Chinese national curriculum, and the Chinese Wu culture. Students will study the one-year Bridge Program in Year 10 and continue with the two-year IB Diploma Programme in Years 11-12, which is supplemented with various projects and activities on and off campus. In a word, our curriculum is as oriental as it is international.
What are the teachers like at Suzhou High School - International Division?
Our teachers are what we’re truly proud of – they are extraordinarily knowledgeable, responsible, supportive, and passionate educators. More than half of our teachers hold master's degree, and a quarter are PhDs. An average of 15+ years of teaching experience can say a lot about our expertise. One third of our teachers are international teachers coming from four continents. Our veteran teachers are either from Suzhou High School of Jiangsu Province, or experts of the IBDP education with titles such as the IBDP examiners, external moderators, workshop leaders, and authorization/evaluation readers. Our younger teachers are mostly Suzhou High School graduates who have teaching experiences and academic degrees from top-notch universities overseas.
How do students apply to Suzhou High School - International Division?
Please go to the Admissions page for details, or click here to begin your application.
What qualities do you value in your students?
Our student body is diverse and dynamic, so we do not favor a particular type of student, nor do we have fixed admission standards. In line with our educational philosophy, we hope to see our students thrive to be lifelong learners with international mindedness, independent thinking skills, intellectual curiosity, community awareness, and, above all, honesty and integrity. It means that you, prospective students, are expected to recognize our philosophy and demonstrate qualities that can tell us that you will contribute to and make the most of our school community. To sum up, we are not an exam factory and we do not want our students to be mere fact collectors, score chasers, or detached self-centered egoists.
When is the deadline of application?
Our application for admission runs on a rolling basis and does not have a set deadline, but we do encourage you to complete your application as soon as you can due to limited space in the Year 10 class.
Do I have to choose one subject from each of the six subject groups?
Students are required to select six subjects in total. One subject must be selected from each subject group apart from the Arts and the sixth subject may be selected either from the Arts subject group or from any other subject group apart from Mathematics. Usually students are required to select three higher level(HL) subjects and three standard level(SL) subjects.
If I have learned a foreign language other than English, can I keep learning it at DP?
SZZX-ID requires students whose native language is Chinese to select Chinese A and encourages students intending to apply for universities in English-speaking countries to select English as Languag A or B. (Placement suggestions are given after the placement test at the end of the Bridge Program.) Some students may have learned some other foreign languages prior to Grade 10, but haven't achieved the basic requirement for selecting it as Language B. We suggest these students learn the language in their spare time instead of taking the challenge of selecting the language as Language B.
Do you arrange community services/volunteer works for me?
Service is the core part of the IB CAS project, and it's the means for every student to interact with the community we belong to. At SZZX-ID, we will provide and integrate resources for every student to cater to their quest in "find the problem, seek the why, and provide the how." IB curriculum respects the differences of each student, and therefore, we do not arrange activities. Instead, we encourage our students to delve into the community and find their societal call by providing extensive and effective community solutions.
